Thanksgiving Weekend
It is pouring down with rain outside. It’s cold, it’s windy, it’s miserable … and I love it! Winter is definitely on its way! The trees are turning rusty orange, leaves litter the streets and it’s constant rain and chill. I’ve worn a big black coat to work this past week because the mornings have just been so cold, but I haven’t broken out the scarf or gloves yet – it’s only a matter of time though!
This weekend is a long weekend for Thanksgiving, so that’s three sleep-ins instead of two. Work is going really well, but the early mornings are killing me. I’ve never been a morning person and waking up to an alarm when everyone else in the apartment is still tucked up in bed, snoring asleep, is hard. Yesterday was pretty momentous at work because I finally got a sign with my name on it fixed to my cubicle wall – I finally belong! I also spoke to my boss to ask how long she wanted me there (since I was originally told two weeks, which would have ended yesterday) and she looked confused and told me they wanted me for a long time, for months and months and months, which is excellent because it provides me with a bit of stability. I know I’ll be there for a while, so I don’t have to worry about suddenly being jobless.
So this weekend is a double celebration!
We’ve never done Thanksgiving before, but friends of ours who live in Canada have invited us around for a turkey dinner on Monday, so that should be fun. Then, of course, comes Halloween (another thing we’ve never done and honestly, I’m not sure if I want to do) and our friend Z is absolutely obsessed with it, so she’s determined to make me see how awesome it is. I think she’s already picked out our costumes – she’s the evil queen of hearts and I’m Alice, from Alice in Wonderland. Not that I’m blonde anymore, but I’m contemplating dyeing it again, so maybe I will be by October 31st. I’m willing to give Halloween a go, since we’re now living in a country where it’s celebrated, but it’s definitely going to be strange to say the least.
Do you celebrate Halloween where you live?

Yay for your job!
If I dress up this year while we’re away, I’ll be Alice. It works with my hair and I DO own a blue dress. Just no apron, haha.

Please share pics of your costumes, they sound great! We do celebrate Halloween here, I’ve been in Canada for 10 yrs now and I LOVE that Halloween is such a big deal and that everyone dresses up. The only thing people did in England was maybe trick or treat with a paper bag on their head and a “boo” lol. I’m going to be Deanna Troi from Star Trek: TNG and my boy is going to be Riker this year

Yup – Fall in the Pac. NW! Glad you are liking it! I think the sun is out today though – it is here at our place and very pretty after all that rain and gloom!
Halloween YES! (Save the Snickers for me – I trade all my loot (except Snickers) for other folk’s Snickers!!!)

Aly – I think there might be a lot of “Alice’s” out there this year because she looked so gorgeous in her blue dress in the movie! Are you going classic Alice, or Tim Burton-style Alice?
Emily Jane – I’ve already noticed so much advertising for Halloween, so I’m preparing myself for it to be a big thing. Even my work is getting into it with decorations around the place. Your costume sounds great!
Rabbits’ Guy – It was a BEAUTIFUL day today and we had great fun going out and enjoying the sunshine. It was a rare moment and really makes you appreciate the sun, after taking it for granted for so long in Australia! I actually don’t like Snickers, so if you were trick’or’treating with me, you’d get them all! hehe!

I definitely celebrate Halloween here but it’s not really celebrated here as a city or country. Along with Christmas, it’s the holiday I look forward to most!

Lorraine – I’ve noticed a growing trend in Australia with Halloween being celebrated. Last year I think we had eight trick’or’treaters, which was up about five from the previous year. This year, I’m definitely going to give it a go, since I’ll be surrounded by it!

Yay for the job news! That’s fantastic!
And I’m so hearing you on the morning person thing. I have struggled with this my whole life. I was getting somewhere with it recently but then daylight savings came and started and I feel back to square one with it, Ooops!
I have never celebrated Halloween or Thanksgiving but it would be really fun to give both a go so lucky you!
Look forward to hearing about it
