Costume Stores on Halloween are CRAZY!
That is what I learned today when Phill and I decided at 1pm that we really needed to get our butts to a costume store because Phill still needed a costume and we are going out TONIGHT to celebrate Halloween! We went to three places and while the first two were pretty busy, the third was massive and absolutely PACKED to the rafters with last-minute shoppers trying to get a costume. I was worried they would run out, but they still had heaps of costumes (although there were more for girls than there was for boys).
Now luckily, I have an awesome friend who solved my no-costume dilemma! She arrived home from work yesterday with a costume in a bag which she proceeded to donate to me. Apparently a co-worker had given it to her but my friend already has a costume so YES! Free costume! I’ll wear it, then give it back to her so it can be an addition to her dress-up wardrobe. It’s a win-win situation!
Now, what is the costume? It’s a fairy, but not a typical fairy. It’s a dragon fairy. Not sure what part of it is “dragon”, but it basically looks a little green and slightly evil, which I like. I found a picture of it:

It comes with the dress, the gloves and the wings. Today at the costume shop I bought the cutest thigh-high cobweb stockings, green glitter hair spray (c’mon, who doesn’t love hair glitter, especially on Halloween??) and a black petticoat to go under the skirt. I explained to Phill that I was going to go look at the petticoats and he looked at me all confused and said, “I thought you already have a coat?” to which I giggled and explained to him what a petticoat was. I’m going to top it off with my silver ballet flats (no heels because I’ll die) and whola, green dragon fairy!
We’re going out to a parade of the dead, then to a club. It should be a good night … as long as it doesn’t rain, like it’s looking it might do! We’re Halloween noobs, so we’re quite excited about getting out there and seeing all the costumes. People are already wearing costumes – it’s funny walking down the street in the middle of the day and past you strolls Barbie in a box, arm-in-arm with an evil-looking clown. Niiiice.
Oh, so back to the costume store – we finally got Phill a costume! He’s going as an inmate:

He’s got handcuffs to go with it, but no leg chains because that would just end in tears after a few drinks!
So we’ve got costumes, we’re almost ready to get into the Halloween spirit! Just having something to eat and a bit of a relax, then we’re going to get dressed and head out. I have no idea what to expect from tonight, but I’m excited! I know it’s not officially Halloween yet, but tonight is the night, since nobody wants to go out on a Sunday night!
Happy Halloween everyone! Stay safe and have a crazy time!
