My New Toy!

Over a year ago, when Phill and I first discussed moving to Canada, we knew we’d end up buying a new camera before we went. My old one, a little Olympus point-and-shoot, was fabulous and I use it daily, but it’s old and I wanted something newer, better and more advanced. I wanted more control over my photos, especially photos taken at night, because no matter what I tried they always turned out bad. I’ve been told how beautiful Canada is and I wanted to be able to capture that in my photos. My old camera had been good to me, but I wanted more.

And I got more!

Introducing my new toy: the Canon 550D Digital SLR camera with 18-55mm and 55-250mm IS lenses!

Yup, it’s definitely a step up from my little old point-and-shoot!

This thing is awesome! I’ve not mastered it yet (nor will I for a long time!) but already the photos are larger, clearer and just overall better. I love playing around with aperture and shutter speed and all that sort of stuff – makes me feel like a serious photographer (ha!). I’m just imagining all the amazing photos I will be able to share with you all with this baby, and I’m so excited about the possibilities!

Nope, this isn’t a sponsored post – I bought my new camera myself and I chose Canon because, well we thought it was the best! I’d been saving up for a while and in the end we got a really good price, which also included a bag and a memory card. We left the store very satisfied and eager to start taking photos.

Incidentally, the previous post features photos taken with my new camera – could you see a difference? :)

Daisy – Ooooh sounds like I picked a good one then! :D

I’ve been playing with my brother’s 550 Canon all week now and it is AWESOME. :) I think they’re a great investment – I can’t wait for my Nikon to come in now, as I really want to teach myself how to use it!! :)

Aly – I’m looking forward to you getting your Nikon. I’ve heard they are on the same level as Canon – for some reason the Canon just appealed to us a little more (I think my parents have a Canon too). It’ll be nice seeing your photos you get with your new one – are you doing a count-down?
