Who’s Afraid of the Big Black Panther?

November19

Those of you who have taken the plunge and moved in with someone will know how exciting it is to discover some of your partner’s favourite belongings, like posters or statues or big ugly lamps. Phill and I moved in together about four years ago and I must admit, I was pretty lucky that he didn’t bring much that I didn’t like. There were a couple wrestling posters from back when he watched wrestling and a big blow-up beer bottle which is upstairs in the study. One of his belongings which I found quite interesting was his black panther statue. It takes pride of place at the bottom of the stairs on the little ledge amongst photographs of family and friends.

Black Panther

While I like this statue, Puddy is not convinced.

She has no problem with it during the day but the instant I move it to another location, she freaks out and starts hissing at it. I discovered this quite early on when I placed the panther outside the screen door while I vacuumed the ledge and returned to discover Puddy fluffed up and hissing madly. She seemed to think it was a real, live panther.

Which is why I was very surprised the other day when I came outside to see this:

Not Scared Anymore

Looks like Puddy has conquered her fear of the panther! I had placed the panther on the table and gone inside to find a duster. When I’d come back outside I found Puddy carefreely rolling about on the ground. She’d even gone as far as to jump up on the table while I dusted it and had a good sniff.

Is there anything in your house that completely freaks your pets out?

    Daisy’s “mom” here:
I have a cat-ear headband that is part of a Halloween costume. When I put it on, Daisy’s eyes get huge and she seems scared. I think just the triangle ear shape is a trigger that means “cat” no matter the size.

Daisy’s Mum – Aww poor Daisy! I can imagine how seeing cat ears on a human would be a bit scary!

I have a rabbit too. She is not fond of the vacuum but that is about it.

The Damn Emos on the other hand don’t like it when I break out the gold lame shorts.

    Dunno why ;)

Rabbits’ Guy – Oh I get that! I used to have mice and they hated whenever I changed something around in their cage – they would start dragging things around to fix them!

Kelley – I would love a rabbit! Puddy is terrified of the vaccuum cleaner too. Once I accidentally cornered her in the kitchen and she jumped up on the stove, did a cartoon-running-on-the-spot thing and raced off, knocking dishes to the floor!

Thor is pretty cool about most stuff, but Loki is terrified of the FedEx and UPS trucks and will run and hide if even a similar looking truck drives by the house. He is also afraid of aluminum foil. And people walking in the house with shoes on. And the doorbell. And the doorbell on the show House Hunters. He’s a bit of a drama queen.
