Another thing you might do is write to Wordpress and whine about their awful ,flakey upward compatibility AND their poor processes. They should have done the backp and been able to immediately recover you back when the failure happened.

A friend sent me the link to your post. Boy, do I know that horrifying feeling of a blank white page. And I had to rely on a stranger at the end of a phone to fix it for me, but luckily, fix it they did.

I haven’t upgraded yet. I think I’m still at 2.7. The last upgrade went well, but I’m just so nervous.

Thanks for mentioning the importance of checking your theme’s compatibility. That’s something I wouldn’t have thought of (and haven’t, for past upgrades).

Glad you’re upgraded successfully. Maybe I will be too, some day.
